Welcome to our new Stephen King Book Club hosted by our favorite fiction professor and Stephen King Podcaster Kim C., host of The Year of Underrated Stephen King.
For the second half of the year we will be reading two of the most iconic Stephen King books – IT and The Stand. These two books are so jammed packed that we are dedicating 2 book club meetings to each one plus a transition discussion in between.
Our first novel will be terrifying but beloved IT.
The town of Derry, Maine, is plagued by a malevolent entity that takes the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The creature awakens every 27 years to feed on the fear of children, often manifesting as their worst nightmares. A group of outcast children, known as the Losers’ Club, confronts the entity in 1958, and after a terrifying battle, they seemingly defeat It.
However, when It resurfaces in 1985, the now-adult members of the Losers’ Club must return to Derry to fulfill the promise they made as children and put an end to the creature once and for all. As they confront their own personal traumas and fears, they also uncover the dark history of Derry and the true nature of It.
