Welcome to our new Stephen King Book Club hosted by our favorite fiction professor and Stephen King Podcaster Kim C., host of The Year of Underrated Stephen King.
For the first half of the year we will be reading the series of books that follow Stephen King’s favorite recurring character, Holly Gibney. We will read and discuss the 5 stories that feature Holly on the journey to her very own novel. The full list of titles and dates are listed below.
We start it off with Mr. Mercedes, the first installment of the Bill Hodges trilogy.
In a midwestern city hit hard by the recession, job seekers line up in the early hours of dawn. A maniac in a Mercedes runs them down killing dozens and wounding twice as many. The crime goes unsolved.
Retired cop Bill Hodges can’t let it go. While trying to move on from the massacre, Bill is contacted by someone identifying himself as the Mercedes Killer.
On the other side of town, Brady Hartsfield has chosen his mark and it’s the one who got the closest to him, Bill Hodges. He begins a tawdry game of baiting the aging retiree to edge him out into the open.
Teasing another disaster, Bill Hodges plugs into a relentless hunt for the Mercedes Killer with the help of chain smoking hacker Holly Gibney. All while Brady Hartsfield tries to remain one step ahead…
