Welcome to our new Stephen King Book Club hosted by our favorite fiction professor and Stephen King Podcaster Kim C., host of The Year of Underrated Stephen King.
For the second half of the year we will be reading two of the most iconic Stephen King books – IT and The Stand. These two books are so jammed packed that we are dedicating 2 book club meetings to each one plus a transition discussion in between.
Our 2024 finale will be the iconic book – The Stand.
In 1978, a deadly strain of influenza known as Captain Trips wipes out 99% of the world’s population. The survivors find themselves drawn to two opposing figures: Mother Abigail, an elderly woman with a strong connection to spirituality, and Randall Flagg, a malevolent being with supernatural powers who seeks to establish his own tyrannical rule.
As the survivors gather around these two leaders, a final battle between good and evil looms large. Those aligned with Mother Abagail journey to Boulder, Colorado, where they establish a community based on principles of democracy and cooperation. Meanwhile, Flagg’s followers gather in Las Vegas, embracing violence and chaos under his dark influence.
